Lacrosse.
Hamilton College Men's Lax coach resigns and writes a professional letter to
the alumni and players.
I spoke with McCabe on several occasions and he was is a great guy and
excellent coach. Hopefully the next coach maintains what has been built.
Dear
Alumni, Parents and Friends,
I write you today with a heavy heart as I have decided to leave Hamilton to
pursue another coaching opportunity. I have been offered the position as the
head men's lacrosse coach at Washington & Lee University and over the
weekend Kristen and I decided that this opportunity was one that we should
take.
I want you to know that this decision did not come easy. Leaving Hamilton
College and most importantly, leaving a group of players, alumni, parents
and friends whom I have come to consider my extended family, was an
extremely hard decision. Hamilton Lacrosse is special and I hope all of you
will continue to help support the program.
I have always maintained that family must come first in our lives. To that
end, family considerations were a major driving force behind this decision.
While many reasons factor into the decision, the fact that our children will
much be closer to their grandparents strongly influenced our thoughts.
You should know that Hamilton worked very hard to persuade me to stay. They
have been great throughout this process. I was never not looking to leave
Hamilton. In fact, this was a very tough decision because I loved my job and
I loved working and living in this community. This is a special place and I
will always be proud that I am associated with Hamilton.
The Hamilton lacrosse program is now well
established as one of the top programs in the country. It is poised to take
the next step. There is a great senior class, a very talented recruiting
class and a wealth of underclassmen talent. More importantly the passion,
work ethic and team chemistry is as strong as one could hope for. We have
worked hard together to build pride and enthusiasm in our program. Your
positive and generous support has been tremendous. I urge you to remain
engaged in the program. Transitions are tough but your ongoing support of
our players is critical.
I assure you that Hamilton will do a thorough search and in short time find
a great coach for this program. I am going to help in that process as much
as I can. There is leadership in place to ensure that a great coach will be
hired. Feel free to call me if you have questions or concerns. You may also
want to direct your questions to Sue Viscomi, our acting director of
athletics (sviscomi@hamilton.edu). I also encourage you to direct your
concerns or questions towards Peter Reed, the President of our Boosters
Club. He is available at Peter.Reed@kornferry.com.
Thank you for everything you have done to make my experience at Hamilton so
great.
Boys High School Lax:
Top 25 Teams in the country. Where do you think coaches find players?
How bout them Girls? No rankings to be found? Is there one?
What are the big Juco Lax teams -
take a look. - the next step would be to find out where those players go
on to play 4 year lax? Maybe the route to take for those of you still
wondering why you missed out on the better program recruiting you.
Baseball:
Interesting read on Michigan States baseball coach.
July 11th - Cross Country:
I just found this site and have not read much yet, but looks like a very
good view into the daily life of cross country runners at the best programs
in the country. Created by a Yale Class of 200 Steeplechaser named Matt
Taylor. Go to
Chasingtradition.com.

Football - Harvard Captain in some
serious hot water with the law. Another incident involving alcohol. It
happens everywhere unfortunately.
Really sad about Randy Walker at Northwestern. His teams always played with
such effort and belief.
Nice article by Bill Curry set as a letter to the new coach Pat
Fitzgerald.
Fanblogs - a headline compiler of football fan blogs - Division I.
NCAA - The NCAA
rules on more high schools being unaccredited as it pertains to NCAA
eligibility. I really like some of the names of these schools!

July 6 - Football - Did you know that UMass (1AA)
Football has a blog? It is called UMASS Football
Fanzone.
While I was on that site, I discovered a kicker
recruiting site called
ProKicker.
Baseball/Softball -
why is it that softball coaches want to watch recruits play games to get an
evaluation and baseball coaches want to watch skills and then follow-up with
a game or two? You don't see softball showcases like there are with
baseball. Instead you have tournaments. For one thing, softball teams have
more pitching -even if they have one girl who can throw well, that's all you
need to stay competitive in a double header. At the higher levels of club
softball, coaches know they will see hitters face ok-good pitching.
I asked
Wagner college assistant
coach Rosie Rough about that and she basically said that what better way do
you have of evaluating talent than to observe game situations and reactions?
Baseball coaches always talk about things like "good arm action, smooth
delivery, quick hands, athletic build" and other vague terms. Perhaps
softball coaches look for results more than projection of talent. Hmmm, not
sure. Any thoughts?
Human Kinetics Publishers is having a 20% off sale on any of their
Strength Training Anatomy Posters.
Simply use code J384 when placing your order.
These are always good to have posted in your school or home weight room.
HKP also announced a new release -
Explosive Lifting for Sport which includes a DVD/CD video analysis of
the lifts. Good use of technology as books and photos can't show all the
critical components of these moves.
July
5 - Having issues with conflicts related to school teams versus club,
travel or AAU teams? So are a lot of other people in a lot of other states.

Quick read about community service being helpful to student athletes in
the admissions process.
Who's working out with
weights and strength training?
Everybody! Are you? Unless you have talent like LeBron, high school
student athletes that do not strength train (with flexibility training) will
get overwhelmed by the next level of competition.
