Chapter 7 Excerpt - Life as a College Athlete

Your alarm clock goes off, it's 6:15AM and you have 5 minutes to open your eyes, get dressed and go out the door for practice, walking across campus in 8 inches of snow. After running around a gym for an hour and a half with no food, you grab a quick bite to eat, head back to your dorm, take a shower and catch your breath. Its 9:30 now and you have classes starting in 30 minutes till 2PM. After 2, you grab a quick bite to eat and then head back to your dorm to change for practice again. Its 3PM now and again you are at the gym, shooting, swinging, and running lines. Its now 5PM, there is a long line in the dining hall, you are all sweaty and tired, but you don’t feel like going back to your dorm room to change.

You make it back to your dorm at 6PM, but you don’t shower because you have to be back to the weight room at 7pm to lift with your team. Its 8:30 now, you are back at your dorm, you shower, change, and sit down on your bed to relax for a minute and to digest the day you just had. You have 5 chapters to read in two classes, a 10-page paper that's due in 3 days and a short quiz on the environmental impact of humans on the Florida Everglades, and then there is that cute girl a few floors above you who wants you to go with them to a party tonight. You flip through the TV channels stopping to watch Sports-center for a second, then world’s wildest police chases catches your eye. Then it dawns on you. You just completed a 14 hour day where you didn’t have one second of time that was devoted to just you.
