Trends in Digital Video -  Winter 2005

by Nick Interdonato

It's been quite some time since my last article on Digital Video and quite a lot has happened in 6 months!

The technology is better and sometimes exciting (can you say "voice-enabled" data entry?). Prices are dropping fast for Digital Video Editing software because most the technology is included, in a generic form, with EVERY Windows and Mac PC!. Finally, our company, CompuSports is going to release a video-enabled version of our Easy-Scout XP product this Spring for $995. We will not be the first to offer "specialized" video editing technology to football coaches for under $1000, and most certainly we will not be the last.

I must make a confession before I go any further: As was, at first, the case when we released our Easy-Scout Mobile ("handheld" or PDA based) scouting product last summer, for me personally, the jury is still out on one big question ......

Do the real world benefits of the latest "neato-wiz-bang-cool" video editing technology deliver enough benefit to justify the costs and inevitable inconveniences that all computers seem to create?

Let's think for a moment about the "real world" that many High School coaches live in during a typical week in a typical season
