Question: What are
some good drills to practice with my 7 year old daughter to address the
problem of swinging late on pitches off a pitching machine?
Answer: In a perfect baseball world, there would be no machines. The
challenge with machine pitch is the limited visual cues afforded the hitter
as to when to start their swing and the same location of the ball each time.
We have a generation of "fast-forward" hitters that struggle with power and
timing. Suggest to your daughter to start her "back-stretch" of her hands
before the ball is placed in the machine. Put another way, her hands should
be back and her stride should be started before the ball come out of the
machine.
