Title: NCAA Clearning House
Author: Ray Lauenstein
If you think you might play sports at the college Div. 1 or 2 level next year, you have to be registered with the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse at the end of your Junior year. Go see your guidance counselor now! You must send transcripts from every HS you attended. There is a form (Student Release Form) you fill out. Send the white copy to the Clearinghouse, Yellow and Pink copies go to your guidance counselor. You must pay an $18 fee. You must have taken a minimum of 13 core courses which are determined and approved by the clearinghouse. You must have attained a minimum GPA in those classes and a minimum score on the SAT or ACT.
Failure to register with the Clearinghouse in a timely fashion can result in a loss of eligibility and scholarship money. For a complete listing of NCAA Clearinghouse regulations go to the NCAA website.
Academic Requirements differ for Division 1 and 2. Division 3 schools make their own rules. Check specifically with the ones you are interested in. The NAIA and NJCAA (Junior College) schools also have their own minimum eligibility standards.
