Places to Look!
1. Under the seat cushions of your couch. You might find a bunch of quarters for laundry.
2. The federal government. Federally funded grants and loans i.e. Stafford Loans and Pell Grants.
3. The School or College. Apply for financial aid no matter what. Ask if there are any scholarships you can apply for. Maybe there is one based on your sex, race, religion or geographical local.
4. Relatives. Gifts and low or no interest loans are always nice. Perhaps you stand to inherit some wealth from your grandparents. See if they want to help out with school instead?
5. Athletic Scholarship. Many schools have grants for athlete’s. Find a school that wants you on their team and see what kind of offer you get.
What you must Do!
1. Fill out FAF forms. See your guidance counselor.
2. File a financial aid application with every school you apply to. Deadlines vary from school to school. Call financial aid, request an application, fill it out and mail it.
Push your parents to help since much of the info is supplied by them anyway.
3. Narrow your choices down to a few definites. Make the coach think they are your number one choice, but that you need to have a good aid package to afford their school. Whoever comes with the best package gets you. (Do not hold out for a full ride if its not being offered. You will wait yourself out of an opportunity.)
4. Be assertive and ask the coaches for specific information about how your application process is coming along. Is there anything else you can do?
